Rumors increase that Miss Dominican Republic paid for pageant title

Some Miss Dominican Republic contestants have come out to denounce Dalia Fernandez's win, claiming that she paid for the crown and title, according to press reports.

"There are rumors that the crown was sold, that it was sold quite some time ago. A lot of the contestants did not believe it, but that's what happened," contender Miss Espalliat Alba Jimenez explained to TV program Nuria.

According to reports, the crown was allegedly purchased for US$110,000. "Everyone noticed that it was a montage for her. They always were with her, they always ate with her, it was always the best for her. They mentioned $110,000 dollars," Miss Dajabon Gabriela Ferreiras stated.

Despite all the fuss, winner Dalia Fernandez is still perceived throughout international forums as the best Latin successor for current Miss Universe Ximena Navarrete.
