Wilson Gomez also cited Santo Domingo, San Pedro, Santiago and Samaná as the other places where many documents are forged.
The official noted however that the forgery of titles has fallen in the last few years, with 108 cases in 2008 compared with 41 in 2010. “It’s necessary to stress that of the total of forgery cases only 2.3 percent were actually carried out."
In a gathering with the press the Real Estate agency chief also revealed that as of 2010 as much as 20% of the country’s land isn’t registered.
Higuey is the county seat of Altagracia province, the country’s major tourism resort region, with nearly 30,000 rooms.
